Mobile Phones Surge in 2019 as Top Source for Franchise Prospects

Smartphones are growing at an even faster rate this year as the No.1 way that franchise prospects begin their investment process. After several years of single-digit growth, the smartphone share of new franchise inquiries grew 12% over the past 12 months – reaching a full 73% of Internet inquiries originating on a mobile phone. 

That’s the latest from an annual analysis of investment prospects provided to thousands of franchisors in the United States and Canada by Franchise Ventures, a network of business investment portals (and publisher of this website). Franchise Ventures shares its data with industry leaders to better understand future franchise owners and the sales process needed to reach them. 

The latest research showed:

  • Total mobile device share is now 77%.
  • Mobile phones account for 73% of prospects, up 12% over last year. That’s nearly double the share only 5 years ago.
  • Desktop and laptop computers fell to 23% share this year – down from 98% share in 2010.Tablets fell to 4% share in 2019.
